Modified Shear-Induced Potential Contact Zones

In July 2020 a pre-proof of a new publication by Kayhan Develi, titled Computation of Direction Dependent Joint Surface Parameters through the Algorithm of Triangular Prism Surface Area Method: A Theoretical and Experimental Study, presented in International Journal of Solids and Structures (ISSN 0020-7683) was made available.

The paper presents a simplified approach to the “methodology on the quantification of the shear-induced potential contact zones” introduced by Prof. Giovanni Grasselli in 2001. Although the methodology is fundamentally very strong at properly dealing with the physics of the shear phenomenon, it requires a high precision measurement system and a robust triangulation algorithm. Kayhan Develi attempts to simplify the technique and calls it “the modified shear-induced potential contact zones”.
