Reopening – New Samples

With the reopening of the laboratory amid the start of Phase II of reopening in Ontario, the Geomechanics group has teamed up with PETRONAS Canada, the industry partner, to start a new project. This project aims at understanding the geomechanical nature of the rock at depths ranging approximately from 920 m to 1060 m true vertical depth (TVD). The coring program was carried out by PETRONAS Canada with consultation with the Geomechanics group to ensure that the program can deliver quality samples that can be tested to best represent the rock at depth.

The following tests are proposed for geomechanical characterization: Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS), Confined Compressive Strength (CCS), Indirect Tensile Splitting (BD), Cracked Chevron Notched Brazilian Disc (CCNBD), Slake Durability, and Nano-indentation Testing.
