On June 7-8 2022, Professor Giovanni Grasselli, the NSERC/Energi Simulation Industrial Research Chair in Fundamental Rock Physics and Rock Mechanics, hosted the annual Energi Simulation IRC Student Showcase at the University of Toronto. This is the first time the event was held in-person since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and it was attended by industry, the Energi Simulation team, and the research team at U of T both in-person and virtually.
On the second day of the visit, the HQP of the Geomechanics Group at U of T presented the results of their research realized over the past year in a hybrid in-person and virtual format. This included topics such as polyaxial test results and novel imaging techniques, micro-seismic implications of layered rocks, how concrete coated steel pipe behaves under stress, and how to model fracture geometry with three phase flow and temperature using the hybrid finite-discrete element method (FDEM). To view a recording of the presentations please find a link to the YouTube playlist here.
We would again like to thank our sponsors, Energi Simulation, NSERC, PETRONAS Canada, Geomechanica, CMGL, and Shawcor who continue to support our research program. If you are interested in joining the Stimulated Rock Volume (SRV) Consortium please contact info.geogroup@utoronto.ca for details. We look forward to holding many more events this year!
