Vahid Afroughsabet

Postdoctoral Researcher

Biography

Vahid is working as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering at University of Toronto, where investigates the properties of concrete weight coating to understand its performance including crack development. Vahid completed his PhD degree with honour at Politecnico di Milano University, Italy in March 2018. During his PhD study, he established collaboration with national and international universities and had the privilege to work at Prof. Paulo Monteiro’s research group at UC, Berkeley. Prior to his PhD study, Vahid worked as a research associate at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore on the project of “Underwater Infrastructures & Underwater City of the Future”. His research in the past 10 years has focused on concrete technology with a particular focus on fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) and sustainable construction materials, beginning with development and characterization of FRC but with a current primary focus on application of microscopic techniques to study the durability and performance of concrete. Vahid research interests are including but not limited to fiber-reinforced concrete, concrete durability, innovative binders, reuse of waste in construction materials, and smart infrastructure materials.
