Thomas de Boer

MASc Student

Biography

Thomas de Boer earned his BASc in Geological Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2019. Thomas worked in the industry for two years as a Geotechnical EIT, with a focus on both civil infrastructure tunnel projects and open pit and underground mine stability. Thomas is currently working towards a MASc in Civil and Mineral Engineering at the University of Toronto with the goal to expand his knowledge of modelling, data science, and machine learning applications to civil and mineral engineering problems. His research interests range from FDEM modelling for tunnels and underground excavations to GIS and data science applications to large geotechnical datasets. Outside of the lab Thomas is an avid forager, obsessed with plants and mushrooms, and enjoys homebrewing, winemaking, and large-scale food preparation. Thomas is a fan of all things outdoors and enjoys camping, biking, and skiing
