Dr. Xiaofeng Li earned his BEng from Wuhan University in 2013, and PhD degree in rock dynamics from Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Monash University in 2019. After that he worked as a research assistant professor one year in Chinese Academy of Sciences. He then did postdoctoral research at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 2020-2021. Currently, he is a postdoc in Grasselli’s Geomechanics Group at the University of Toronto.

His research interests lie in the fields of rock dynamics and computational mechanic sciences with emphasis on hybrid continuum and discontinuum methods development for failure modelling of geomaterials spanning the scale from micro-grain-based heterogeneity (mineral, texture, anisotropy, grain morphology) to macro- in-situ applications (rock faulting, geothermal-induced earthquakes). Recent researches have included: (a) rock pulverization due to fast earthquakes, insights from the dynamic fragmentation and super-shear faulting, (b) rock-fluid interaction affects the rock deformation and fault activation, and (c) open-source project of hybrid continuum and discontinuum computational modelling (OpenFDEM).
